I'm happy to offer here a new version of the index, which I completely revamped for the 2022 Penguin Books paperback and ebook. Of course please buy the paperback or ebook if you'd prefer to have text and index together. But you can keep a printout of this pdf tucked in the back of the hardcover, or do more thorough searches of the pdf on your tablet or phone. Or both.
I redid the index to make it more complete and intuitive. Rather than the sub-headings in each entry being organized alphabetically, they begin with the the definition of an idea or molecule or material, and then track its appearances chapter by chapter as the world tour proceeds.
